SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH TIU

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene women's softball team split a doubleheader against the Trojans of Trinity International University Monday afternoon. Kori Fricke picked up her seventh win on the season allowing only three hits, one run, and two walks on the mound while hitting a pair of doubles and tallying three RBIs from the plate in a 12-1 win for game one. The Tigers fell in game two, 4-3.


GAME 1: ONU 12, TIU 1 F/5

Trinity International scored their first and only run of the ballgame in the top half of the first inning. The Tigers quickly responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Kate Landis drove in the tying run followed by Fricke and Faith Mikos each hitting doubles to score the other three. ONU continued the run production in the third inning posting an additional four runs. The Purple and Gold rounded out the scoring for the contest with four more crossing homeplate in the fourth inning including a solo home run by Megan Mann.

Along with Fricke's three RBIs, Margaret Landis and Kailyn Ngo contributes multiple runs in the game. Margaret Landis recorded three and Ngo tallied two. Kate Landis was a perfect three-for-three from the plate while registering an RBI. Seven different Tigers were credited with an RBI.

 

GAME 2: TIU 4, ONU 3

An early pitcher's duel held firm until the bottom of the third inning when Haley Dobson hit her third home run of the season as she cleared the wall to left-center field. The Trojans scored twice in the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. ONU jumped back in front in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. Megan Mann was quick to reach home on a wild pitch. Kate Landis took advantage of an error to bring the score to 3-2.

One swing from a Trojan batter scored two runs including the game-winner in the final inning. The Tigers had the tying run on second base and the game-winning run on first in the bottom of the seventh inning but were unsuccessful in extending the game.
