TIGERS FALL IN BOTH GAMES OF A DOUBLEHEADER TO LINDSEY WILSON

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball program fell in both games of a doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers' Taylor Steig registered RBIs in both outings while the pitching staff struck out a season-high 12 batters in game two.

First Game: Lindsey Wilson 8, Olivet Nazarene 3

Lindsey Wilson scored eight unanswered runs between the fourth and sixth innings that created a lead too big for the Tigers to recover from. ONU scored the first run of the day in the top of the first inning as Jack Dupuis scored on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Stieg, his first RBI of the season.

Olivet's rally in their final three outs came up short scoring two runs. Garrett Mooney doubled to left field to bring Evan Pogioli across home. Robert Jackman lined out to right field that scored Geon Yoon to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Tigers could not extend the rally as a pop-out ended the inning and the game.

Second Game: Lindsey Wilson 3, Olivet Nazarene 2

Lindsey Wilson stole the second game with a walk-off home run in extra innings. For the second time in two games, ONU put a run on the board in the top of the first inning. Taylor Stieg tallied his second RBI of the day after singling to left center field to score Jack Dupuis. LWU responded to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run.

The Tigers took full advantage of an error in the third inning. Stieg put the ball in play that scored Donovan Yelle from third base. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lindsey Wilson sent the ballgame to extra innings with an RBI single and then walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run.

The Tiger's pitching staff combined for a season-high 12 strikeouts. The starter, Thomas Burns, struck out four batters in four innings pitched. Kainoa Mane came in relief to strikeout six in three innings pitched and Jonathan Simpson tallied the final two strikeouts in extra innings.
