MULLIKIN NETS CAREER WIN No. 200 AS TIGERS SWEEP SAINT XAVIER

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After falling in a doubleheader against Saint Xavier earlier in the season, the Olivet Nazarene University baseball team responded with a dominant doubleheader sweep over the Cougars Monday afternoon at Watson Field. The second win of the set marked Head Coach Jeff Mullikin's 200th career win as a collegiate head baseball coach.

The Tigers made quick work of SXU Monday, putting up double-digit runs in both contests for final scores of 13-5 and 19-8 to improve to 17-11 in CCAC play and move into a tie for second place in the league standings.

After Saint Xavier (25-21, 17-11 CCAC) struck first in the top of the opening frame, Kai Hudson responded with an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom half of the first inning. Starting pitcher Erick Cerezo then settled into a rhythm, leaving the Cougars off the scoreboard for the next three innings. The Tiger offense, in turn, punched up nine runs across the second and third innings to put the game out of reach.

Cerezo went 4.2 innings as the starter, allowing five earned runs on four hits en route to his third win of the season. Masen Beatty went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs to lead the offense. He was one of four Tigers to record two RBIs in the opener, alongside Jack Dupuis, Hudson, and Taylor Bledsoe.

Game two of Monday's doubleheader featured the same high-powered offense and dominant pitching performances as the Tigers ended things early in the seventh inning via mercy rule. The Purple & Yellow Gold plated multiple runs in five of the six innings they went to bat.

A total of six Tigers recorded a multi-hit game in the nightcap, highlighted by an emphatic 4-for-5 performance from Dupuis that featured six RBIs and a walk. Hudson notched three more RBI while going 4-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored, and Jordan Rhoden added three RBIs himself. Cade Costello was given the win as the ONU starter, going 4.2 innings with four earned runs on five hits.

The Tigers will wrap the regular season with a four-game set against the league-leading St. Francis Fighting Saints, beginning Thursday at 1 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill.
