ONU SWEEPS JUDSON IN A THREE-GAME SERIES

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team (17-15, 7-4 CCAC) swept a three-game series against the Judson Eagles Thursday and Friday. ONU outscored their opponents 25-12. Ethan Underwood starred from the mound in game one picking up his fourth win of the season with five innings of work. Geon Yoon was hot from the plate hitting .444 for the series with three RBIs including the game-winner in game two.

 

The Tigers kicked off the series with a 10-4 home win over the Eagles. They benefitted from six unanswered runs between the third and fifth innings. Kai Hudson tied the game up with an RBI single and then subsequently scored the go-ahead run all in the third inning. Taylor Steig would bat in the game-winning run in the fifth inning as Olivet led the rest of the game. Underwood would strike out eight of his 23 batters faced and the pitching staff would combine for 12 total strikeouts in the win.


ONU would score five runs in the top of the eighth inning to lift the ballclub to a 13-8 win. Yoon shot a ball down the left field line to score Hudson as the game-winning run. Evan Pogioli and Garrett Mooney would combine for four additional RBIs for as insurance runs on the Tigers' way to claiming the first game of the doubleheader on Friday.

 

Thomas Burns threw five scoreless innings for his second win of the year in a 2-0 win in the series finale. The junior faced 17 batters and struck out four. Garrett Mooney brought in both runs as his sacrifice bunt in the second inning scored Donovan Yelle and his sacrifice fly scored Sam Reczek in the fourth.

 

The series sweep over Judson is their third of the season and second in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

ONU will be back in action next weekend as they begin a three-game series against Trinity International. The first game at TIU will be played Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
