DEMOSTHENES SNAGS 1,000TH POINT AS TIGERS WIN OVER BEES

DAVENPORT, IA. – Olivia Demosthenes reached a career milestone by scoring her 1,000th point, steering the Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team to a decisive 86-69 road victory against St. Ambrose University.

With two points shy of a thousand, Demosthenes entered the game needing just a whisper to etch her name in program history. And whisper she did, draining a first-quarter three that not only gave the Tigers the lead but also marked her 1,000th point. She racked up nine more points throughout the game.

Demosthenes, affectionally known as "Deemo" by her teammates and coaches, has played in 100 games for ONU. She is the 35th player in program history to join the 1,000th point club.

After Demosthenes' three pointer, the Tigers remained at the helm of the first quarter. St. Ambrose kept ONU on their toes in the second quarter. After the midway mark, Olivia Dirkse and Bett O'Neal hit crucial three pointers to push the Tigers four points in front of the Fighting Bees. As the clock wind down, Grace Schutt put up a three pointer to send ONU into halftime with a comfortable 41-36 cushion.

Khendel Rolison put up four consecutive points in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Fighting Bees tried to mount a comeback but Dirkse drained another three with 11 seconds left on the clock to give the Tigers a 14 point advantage as quarter ended. Free throws made all the difference from the home side to help pull the game out of reach in the fourth. The Tigers pulled away with a 86-69 victory.
