TIGERS CLAW PAST VITERBO TO SECURE CCAC CHAMPIONSHIP BERTH

BOURBONNAIS, IL. - Olivet Nazarene University's women's soccer team delivered an impressive performance on their home turf on Tuesday in the CCAC semifinals, defeating Viterbo University with a commanding 3-0 victory.

 

First Half: ONU Takes Control

In the opening minutes of the game, ONU asserted their dominance as senior midfielder Keeley Francis found the back of the net in the 7th minute. Her precision and agility gave the Tigers an early lead, setting the tone for a first half where they continually controlled the pace and direction of the match.


As the first half progressed, the Tigers maintained their high level of play and determination. In the 41st minute, they were awarded a crucial penalty kick, expertly taken by freshman forward Skylar Bos. Her precision and composure under pressure widened the gap, giving ONU a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the second half, leaving Viterbo scrambling to regroup and find a way to mount a comeback.

 

Second Half: Tigers Maintain Their Grip

The second half of the match saw both teams battling fiercely, with Viterbo attempting to claw their way back into the contest and ONU determined to maintain their lead. The tension in the air was palpable, but the Tigers remained steadfast in their pursuit of victory. The ONU defense held strong, frustrating the V-Hawks' attempts to break through.

In the 83rd minute, the Tigers put the game to bed when senior midfielder Abbey Cash delivered a perfectly placed corner into the box, and junior defender Annabel Murley rose above the Viterbo defenders to head the ball into the net. With this goal, ONU secured a comfortable 3-0 lead, leaving the V-Hawks with a mountain too steep to climb in the closing minutes. The Tigers successfully navigated the second half, preserving their lead and sealing their place in the CCAC tournament final.

 

Looking Ahead

The Tigers are now eagerly anticipating their upcoming clash in the CCAC tournament final, fueled by the confidence and momentum gained from their impressive victory over Viterbo. ONU will be traveling to face the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University on Nov. 10th. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
