TIGERBALL FALLS SHORT IN NAIL-BITER AGAINST IUSB

SOUTH BEND, IN. - Olivet Nazarene University's women's basketball team put on a valiant effort but ultimately fell short on the road against Indiana University South Bend, dropping a close contest 84-81 on Wednesday night.

The game started with a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets. ONU managed to grab the early lead, but IUSB countered with six straight points to take control. The quarter saw a thrilling display of lead changes, but the Tigers found a way to pull ahead in the final seconds, ending the period on top 22-20. 

The second period began with a rude awakening for the Tigers as IUSB unleashed a dominant 12-point run, opening up a double-digit lead. Refusing to be discouraged, ONU fought back, led by Preslee Michael's clutch three-pointer that brought them within striking distance. Despite their efforts, the Titans managed to maintain a narrow lead heading into halftime, 42-41.

The third quarter continued the seesaw battle, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. IUSB managed to pull ahead by six points at one point, but ONU never let them get comfortable. Late in the quarter, the Titans stretched their lead to 13 points, but the Tigers responded with a late surge to close the gap to nine points heading into the final frame with a score of 67-58. 

The fourth quarter showcased the determination of both teams, with each basket answered by the other. Despite IUSB's attempts to pull away, the Tigers never gave up, going on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to five points with under five minutes remaining. The game remained a nail-biter until the very end, with Michael hitting another three-pointer to bring ONU within three points with a minute left. However, IUSB capitalized on free throws down the stretch to secure the victory, 84-81.

 

What's Next

The Tigers will look to bounce back on Feb. 24th as they travel to face the Crimson Wave of Calumet St. Joseph in their final game of the regular season. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. CST.
