COUGARS TOP THE TIGERS 84-73 FOR THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season to Saint Xavier 84-73 on the road Saturday. Olivia Demosthenes set a new career-high with 22 points after finishing the game 9-14 from the field, 3-5 from three in the loss.

The junior guard provided a steady diet of scoring for the Tigers scoring five or more points in each of the four quarters. Her 22 points was a team-best while also tying a game-high. Her three-point basket at the 2:05-mark of the first quarter built a 17-8 lead, the largest Olivet lead for the contest.

Olivia Dirske converted a three-point bucket with 3:46 left in the first quarter for their first lead of the game with the score at 10-8. ONU went into the locker room with a 36-33 lead and would not relinquish it until SXU scored a layup with 8:32 remaining in the third quarter for the 39-38 lead. The ballgame would have four more lead changes until SXU broke away from the visitors outscoring ONU 31-21 for the period.

The Tigers could not chip away at the Saint Xavier lead as they shot 21.1% from the floor and 2-9 from beyond the arc for the final quarter. They could not convert from the free-throw line scoring at 46.9% clip and the reigning CCAC Regular Season Champions out-rebounded ONU 59-38 for the day.
