RV ONU DROPS ROAD OPENER AT NO. 9 INDIANA WESLEYAN

MARION, Ind. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team hit the road for the first time to take on the No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats in Luckey Arena on Tuesday night. 

 

The Tigers got off to a slow start in the game as the Wildcats scored 20 of the first 27 points.  Cade Chitty scored all seven Tiger points in the early going. After Griffin Andricks made a layup making the score 28-16, the Wildcats went on a 15-2 run until Barik Olden drained two free throws making the score, 43-20. The rest of the half was all Wildcats as they shot 66% from behind the arc and 56% from the field as they led 57-23 going into the locker room.  Chitty led the Tigers with nine points and Caleb Swearingen followed with seven points.  Alex Gross led ONU with three rebounds.

Tyler Schmidt kicked off the scoring for the Tigers in the second half and were behind, 57-25. The Tigers then cut into the deficit.  At the score, 59-25, the Tigers went on a 9-4 run highlighted by a three by Chitty making the score, 63-34. At 72-47, the Tigers also went on an 8-0 run as Andricks, Barik Olden, and Landon Pflederer all made baskets.  ONU kept cutting the Wildcat lead down as Jake Brown, Chitty, Olden, and Pfelderer made buckets down the stretch but the Tigers still trailed 89-72 with a minute-and-half left in the game. 

 

The Tigers outscored the Wildcats, 51-41, in the second half but the Wildcats took down the Tigers, 98-75.

The RV Tigers continue their road trip as they play in the Cornerstone Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 5-6 inside MOL Arena.  The Tigers take on the Morningside Mustangs on Friday at 5 p.m. CST and play either Graceland or Cornerstone on Saturday at 2 p.m. CST.
