TIGERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AT BETHEL (TENN.)

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball program swept both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Bethel (Tenn.). The Tiger won 6-0 in their first shutout of the season in the day's opening game followed by a 8-1 victory in the second game.

 

First Game: Olivet Nazarene 6, Bethel (Tenn.) 0

Ethan Underwood took the mound as ONU's starting pitcher. The senior right-hander from Woodstock, Ga. tied a season-high with six strikeouts in four innings of work. He only gave up four hits and walk. Bethel hit two singles in the bottom of the first inning but Underwood did not allow more than one runner on base for the rest of his time in the game.


Thomas Plizga and Logan Marx came in relief to close out the win. Plizga pitched two innings allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out a batter. Marx pitched a clean seventh inning to preserve the shutout.

Olivet's Kai Hudson drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the first inning with Taylor Steig crossing Homeplate. They benefited from two unearned runs in a three-run fourth inning and two additional unearned runs in the 5th and seventh innings to build the 6-0 lead.

Second Game: Olivet Nazarene 8, Bethel (Tenn.) 1

Donovan Yelle started off the second game of the day with a one-out solo home run in the top of the first inning. His long ball was the second home run of the season for the senior outfielder. Jordan Rhoden doubled the Tiger advantage the following inning with his first home run of his career.


Nolan Belschner was given the nod to start and went five innings only allowing one run in the bottom of the third inning. The lefty struck out four batters on the day to increase his season total to nine. Kaino Mane and Noah Bradshaw each pitch clean inning out of the bullpen to secure the win.


Jack Dupuis and Kai Hudson capped off a fruitful day with muti-run home runs in the sixth inning. Dupris two-run homerun scored Geon Yoon from second base. The sophomore infielder now leads the Tigers with three on the year. Kai Hudson launched a three-run home run to score Masen Beatty and Nick Tanner. It was Hudson's first home run of the year and his fourth RBI of the day.
