ONU CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH 1-0 VICTORY OVER VITERBO

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Olivet Nazarene University's (ONU) women's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 win on the road against Viterbo on Saturday, closing out their regular season with determination and grit. A late second-half penalty kick from Melea Miller proved to be the decisive factor, propelling the Tigers into the postseason on a high note.

The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams exhibiting strong defensive play and creating a few scoring opportunities. ONU's defense held firm against Viterbo's advances, thwarting potential threats and keeping the match scoreless. Despite several attempts to break through, neither team was able to find the back of the net before halftime, leaving the score at 0-0 as they headed into the break.

The second half saw ONU ramp up its intensity, pressing the Viterbo defense in search of an opening. The breakthrough came in the 75th minute when the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Miller confidently stepped up to take the shot and converted, giving ONU a crucial lead. With the momentum shifted in their favor, the Tigers continued to apply pressure, seeking to extend their advantage. Viterbo fought hard to equalize but ultimately could not break through ONU's solid defense.

Looking Ahead

ONU will turn its focus to postseason play, hosting Trinity Christian in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) quarterfinals on November 6th at 3 p.m. CST. With home advantage, the Tigers aim to carry their winning momentum into the playoffs and make a strong run for the championship.
