TIGERS POUR IN A SEASON-HIGH 120 POINTS IN WIN OVER CARDINAL STRITCH

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball program put up a season-high point total on the Cardinal Stritch Wolves in a 120-69-win Saturday afternoon. Freshman guard, Olivia Dirkse led all scorers with a game-high 18 points off the bench. ONU as a team converted a season-high 28 threes.

 

Bett O'Neal and Dirkse got the Tigers off and running in the first period combining for 14 of ONU's 25. Anne Peters, Khendel Rolison, and Kaitlyn Engle all contributed with a three-point basket in the first quarter. A 7-0 run followed by a 6-0 run put the Wolves at arm's length with ONU leading 25-10 after 10 minutes of play.

 

The Tigers put up a season-best 43 points in the second quarter. Their most in a 10-minute stretch so far this season. Maggie Cora and Caroline Boehne made their marks on the game starting in the second quarter with the senior guard scoring seven points and the graduate senior forward tallying eight. Dirske tacked on an additional five points as Kaitlyn Engle provide two more made threes. They shot 71.4 percent from the floor and 71.4% from three for the quarter making 15 field goals and 10 threes to go into the halftime intermission leading 69-29.

 

The game settled down in the third period as the visitor scored 25 points, the most of any quarter for the day. They upped their shooting percentage to 50 percent while the home team struggled to find their first-half stroke shooting 34.8 percent.

 

ONU closed the game out strong in the final quarter dropping in six more threes. Eight Tigers scored three or more points in the period. The Purple and Yellow-Gold turned Cardinal Stritch over 25 times which included 20 steals. Brooklyn Marshall swiped a game-high four steals. Olivet has now won their last four games by a combined 169 points.
