BRIAR CLIFF HANDS NO. 20 ONU THIRD STRAIGHT SETBACK

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.  – The No. 20 Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball dropped third-straight game as they opened the GPAC/CCAC Challenge with a 99-69 setback against the Chargers of Briar Cliff University on Friday night. 

 

Kennedy Johnson kicked off the scoring for ONU with a layup.  The Chargers, then, had the three-ball working as they took a 14-7 lead after they made a pair of threes.  After Anne Peters made a three to make the score, 16-12, the Chargers marked nine straight points until Olivia Demosthenes made a free throw.  Briar Cliff led, 26-13. The Chargers were not done yet as they kept shooting the ball well as they scored 9 of the final 13 points to take a 35-18 lead going into the second quarter. 

 

Johnson, like the first quarter, jumpstarted the offense for the Tigers with a jumper.  Johnson went on to score the next four points for the Tigers until Alayha Allen made a jumper making the score, 40-24.  Briar Cliff continued to extend their lead in the midway half of the second quarter.  With four minutes left, The Chargers scored 11 unanswered points until Maggie Cora made a layup. Briar Cliff were in front 58-30.

 

Caroline Boehne and Cora scored the final points of the half for the Tigers as they trailed 63-36 at the half.

The Chargers held the Tigers to no field goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter until Allen made a jumper in the paint to stop the bleeding.  Briar Cliff led, 68-40. Cora and Johnson would combined for the only other field goals in the third quarter as the Tigers fell behind, 77-49, at the end of three quarters. Boehne kicked off the scoring for the Tigers in the fourth quarter.  Then, Johnson made a layup to make the score, 81-53.  At 83-53, The Tigers went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three-pointer by Khendel Rolison.  The Tigers still trailed 83-60. 

 

The Tigers made four more field goals in the rest of the game as Briar Cliff handed the Tigers their third loss of the season.
