ONU FALLS TO SXU IN STRAIGHT SETS TUESDAY NIGHT

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball program fell to the Cougars of Saint Xavier in straight sets Tuesday night. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 1-1 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 6-3 overall.


SXU were hot from the start recording the match's first six points. The home team kept ONU at arms length to claim the first set 25-15. A kill from Jaiton Kamaunu put the Tigers ahead 13-12 midway through the second set. Saint Xavier went on a 5-1 run to follow on their way to a 2-0 lead in the match and a 25-19 second set final score. Olivet would not go down without a fight with the third set proving to be the tightest of the match. They forced three straight match-points before ultimately falling 25-23.


Thorlalf Schmelzer led the team with 28 total attacks. He now has a team-high 208 attacks on the season. James Ballance tallied a team-high seven digs on the night with Schmelzer close behind with six. Tomas Gonzalez doled out 24 assists, just two shy of his season-high.
