SCHMIDT'S CAREER-HIGH 32 POINTS LED THE RV TIGERS PAST THE RV FALCONS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

LAKELAND, Fla. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University saw excellent guard play as they took down the Florida College Falcons, 102-98, in the final game of the Southeastern University Christmas Invitational inside the Furnace on Saturday afternoon. 

 

After the Falcons pulled ahead early in the first half, Caleb Swearingen, Tyler Schmidt, and Landon Pflederer tossed in the first nine points and deadlocked the game at nine all.  Then, after Florida College drained a three, Schmidt made three straight layups and Swearingen knocked down a three to give the Tigers an 18-12 lead.  With about 8:45 left, the Tigers found themselves behind 32-25 until Pflederer and Caleb Corro drained threes on back-to-back possessions to cut the Falcon lead to one at 32-31. 

 

The game went back-and-forth until the Tigers took over the half.  At 40-39, Corro and Schmidt extended the lead to 45-39.  Corro marked the final five points for the Tigers in the end of the half.  ONU led 51-46.  Schmidt led the Tigers with 19 points while Plfederer and Corro posted 11-point totals.

Alex Gross, Pflederer, and Schmidt led the Tigers, scoring the first 14 points for the Tigers.  However, Florida College kept hanging around as they trailed the Tigers by the score of 72-69. Then, ONU went on an 8-0 run that was highlighted by three-pointers by Corro and Schmidt.  ONU led the Falcons, 80-69.  After Cade Chitty made a layup to extend the Tiger lead to 92-78, the Falcons went on a 14-4 run, which cut the lead for ONU to four at 96-92, with 33 seconds left in the game. 

 

Despite a pair of threes by Florida College, Pflederer knocked down six straight free throws to seal a 102-98 victory for the Tigers.
