RV ONU DOWNED SAINT AMBROSE, 89-66, AS TWO TIGERS RECORD DOUBLE-DOUBLES

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team welcomed the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University to McHie Arena for a midweek CCAC contest. The Tigers earned the 89-66 win. 

 

Alex Gross, Tyler Schmidt, and Barik Olden got the Tiger offense started, combining for the first 19 points.  Olden and Schmidt, during that stretch, marked threes for the Tigers. The Fighting Bees tied the game at 19 as the Tigers went on another great run.  That run was sparked by three layups by Griffin Andricks and a three by Schmidt.  ONU led 28-19.  Saint Ambrose got within seven at 32-25 until Schmidt brought the house down with a dunk-and-one opportunity making the score, 34-25.

 

Olden and Gross ended the half marking the game's five points as the Tigers took a 41-25 lead into the locker room.  Schmidt and Gross led the Tigers with 14 and 11 points, respectively.  Gross led the Tigers with eight boards in the half.

The Fighting Bees marked seven of the first nine points but the Tigers still led 43-32.  The Tigers then went on a 10-0 run as they led 53-42.  Gross and Cade Chitty led the Tigers as each threw down a dunk.  At 60-42, ONU went on a 9-0 run highlighted by field goals by Caleb Swearingen and Schmidt.  Jake Brown and Andricks then made layup as the Tigers led 73-47. 

 

The Tigers, ended the game, getting contributions from up-and-down-the-lineup and saw baskets from Tobi Sonuga, Chitty, and Braydon Flagg.  ONU defeated the Fighting Bees 89-66.
