MEN'S VOLLEYBALL WINS FIRST MATCH IN PROGRAM HISTORY DURING DAY 1 OF THE JUDSON TOURNAMENT

Second Match: (RV) Goshen 3, Olivet Nazarene 0

In their second and final match of the day, Olivet Nazarene fell to Goshen in straight sets. Collier Kahaku Marquez had a game-high .462 with 13 attacks converting to 8.5 points. Hunter DeMello and Max Slaughter each registered eight digs, setting a new career-high for DeMello in a single match.

First Match: Olivet Nazarene 3, Maranatha Baptist 0

ONU kicked off the day strong picking up a three-sets-to-none win over Maranatha Baptist. Jaiton Kamaunu had a game-high 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .400 in the match. Max Slaughter tallied a team-high 18 total attacks and scored a match-best 14.0 points.

The Tigers as a team recorded 13 service aces, the most in a single match this season. James Ballance set a new career-high with four as five different players marked a tally in the ace stat column.

Olivet led most of the way in the opening set. Maranatha Baptist chipped away at the deficit to eventually level the score at 22 apiece. Two kills from Slaughter and a kill from Sterling Staranchuk with assists from Hunter DeMello finished off the first set to give the Tigers the early 1-0 lead in the match.

ONU benefitted from MBU attacking errors streaking for a 10-1 run to open the second set. With the score standing at 15-11, Staranchuk ignited a 10-3 run capped off with a Kamaunu kill to take the lead by two sets.

The Purple and Gold completed the match sweep by mirroring the same score as the second set. ONU scored eight of the first 10 points to jump out to an early lead. Two kills from Slaughter in consecutive volleys contributed to the Tigers ending the match on a 5-1 run.
