McAFEE POWERS TIGERS TO 3-1 VICTORY AT JUDSON

ELGIN, Ill. – Brody McAfee put down a team-high 19 kills to lead the Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball team to a 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 victory over Judson Wednesday evening in the Lindner Fitness Center.

The sophomore outside hitter, who was named the CCAC Freshman of the Year last season, reached the mark on 31 attempts with just two hitting errors for a stellar .548 hitting percentage.

The Tigers came out of the gates firing, rallying for five consecutive points off of Tyler Van Laten's serve to build an early lead. The opening set lead ballooned to as many as eight points when McAfee teamed up for a block with Jackson Harvey before putting away a kill to make it 15-7. ONU closed out the set a few points later.

Judson (6-6, 1-1 CCAC) rallied late to claim the second set and rallied back to tie the third set late at 22-22. But McAfee sparked an ONU spurt with another kill, and the ensuing Eagle error put the tigers at set point. Harvey wrapped the set with a kill to give the Tigers a 2-1 set advantage.

ONU made quick work of the fourth set, racing out to an 8-2 lead after another Harvey kill. Back-to-back service aces from Max Rodenmeyer extended the lead to double digits at 22-11. The Eagles showed some fight, scoring seven of the next eight points to get to within five, but a McAfee kill and Tomas Gonzalez service closed out the Tiger win.

McAfee had plenty of help, with Cade Ooms and Kahaku Marquez chipping in nine kills apiece. Harvey finished with seven and Jaiton Kamaunu had four.

Gonzalez and Will Byers both reached double-digit assists with 22 and 17, respectively, while the former led the team in digs with eight.

The Tigers will now go wheels up to the Golden State where they will take on No. 1 The Master's Saturday afternoon in Santa Clarita, Calif.
