TIGERS EXTEND THEIR WINNING STREAK TO SIX MATCHES FOLLOWING SWEEP OF CSU

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball program swept Cardinal Stritch 3-0 Wednesday night in McHie Arena. Four different Tigers finished the night with better than a .500 kill percentage on their way to the win.


Thoralf Schmelzer led the way with 11 kills at a clip of .562. The freshman outside hitter now has eight matches reaching double figures in kills and has totaled 32 kills in his past two appearances. He tacked on five digs and four assists in the box score. The reigning hitter of the week led all players on the night with 12.0 points.


Jake Ostema led the game of players with over five total attacks with a kill percentage of .583. He converted eight of his 12 attacks for kills with only one hitting error. Coming off a season high eight blocks against Calumet on Saturday, the graduate senior was a wall at the net again providing four blocks. He finished the match second on the Tigers with 10.0 total points.


Tomas Gonzalez and Kahaku Marquez were the third and fourth Tigers to provide a kill percentage of .500 or greater. Gonzalez, the reigning setter of the week hit right at a .500 clip and provided a game-high 27 assists. Marquez hit for a .545 kill percentage totaling 7.5 points in the match.


Olivet as a unit out hit the Wolves .360 to .119. The home team recorded a total of 40 kills on the night with only 13 errors. They never trailed the visitors by more than two points at any point of the night.
