TIGERS BOUNCE BACK WITH A STRAIGHT-SET VICTORY OVER ROOSEVELT

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball program (16-5, 10-1) returned to winning ways following a victory in straight sets over the Lakers of Roosevelt Tuesday (6-14, 3-6) night. Cade Ooms and Kahaku Marquez each tallied a game-high 11.0 points on the night while Thoralf Schmelzer registered a season-high five service aces.


The Tigers' high-powered offensive converted 36 attacks to kills while holding the opposition to 23. Ooms led the way with nine kills with Marquez close behind with eight. A total of 10 different Tigers tallied at least one or more kills in the match. Schmelzer was credited with five of ONU's 10 total service aces. It is the first time since their 3-1 win over Calumet (Ind.) back on Feb. 23 reaching double figures in the stat category and their fifth time total this season.


ONU matched their offense with a stout defense holding the match advantage as a team in total blocks and digs. Ooms and Schmelzer combined for a total of 14 digs. They totaled 25 digs to RU's 17. Marquez totaled four blocks in the match including two solo efforts.


Tomaz Gonzalez provided 24 assists to lead all players. The freshman setter now has over 500 assists on the season. Hunter DeMello provided eight helpers as the Tigers totaled 34 total assists in the match.
