ONU UNABLE TO KEEP PACE IN 5-2 LOSS TO GSU
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University's (ONU) men's soccer team battled hard but fell short in a 4-2 loss to Governors State University (GSU) on Wednesday at home. Despite moments of offensive pressure, ONU struggled to keep up with the high-scoring Jaguars, who pulled away in the second half to secure the victory.
The first half saw GSU take an early lead, striking quickly in the 5th minute to go up 1-0. The Jaguars doubled their advantage in the 13th minute, leaving ONU searching for answers. The Tigers found life in the 33rd minute when Adrian Kang Hagman scored off a well-placed assist from Kurodo Ihara, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Despite ONU's late push, the Tigers entered halftime down by one.
ONU came out firing in the second half, and their effort paid off when Noa Norton leveled the match at 2-2 with a goal in the 57th minute. However, GSU quickly regained control, scoring twice in rapid succession in the 61st and 64th minutes to pull ahead 4-2. Despite ONU's efforts to mount a comeback, the Jaguars put the game out of reach with their fifth goal in the 82nd minute, sealing the 5-2 win.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will aim to regroup as they head on the road for their next conference match against the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints on October 5th, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. CST. ONU will look to bounce back and secure a positive result as they continue their conference campaign.
