PERFECT CCAC START CONTINUES WITH REVERSE SWEEP WIN AT TCC
PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – After quickly falling behind two sets to open the match, the Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team fought back and ultimately completed the reverse sweep comeback in a 16-25, 16-25, 27-25, 25-17, 15-11 win at Trinity Christian Thursday evening.
Things got off to a disappointing start for ONU, with the Tigers dropping the first and second sets with -.229 and .092 hitting percentages, respectively, while the Trolls (2-12, 1-2 CCAC) were hitting their marks to put the Purple & Yellow Gold at 2-0 deficit.
The match looked poised to end in a straight-set sweep for TCC, with the Trolls securing a kill to sit at a 25-24 match point late in the third. But a service error tied the score, and Naomi Monney-Hori iced the set with back-to-back service aces to keep the match alive.
The Tigers raced out to a big lead in the fourth set thanks to two more aces from Monney-Hori. Halle Nicholas, the defending CCAC Attacker of the Week, put away three consecutive kills late in the set to put the Tigers at set point, and another TCC service error pushed the match to a decisive fifth set.
After surrendering the first four points, the Tigers rallied to take control of the fifth. Breanna Lamie capped off a four-point ONU spurt with a service ace to tie the match and two consecutive TCC attacking errors put the Tigers in front 9-7.
Trinity Christian closed the gap to tie the match 9-9 but a Kaitlyn Kolb and Sabrina Sanif block put the Tigers in front for good. Consecutive kills from Emma Edmonds, Ava Smith, and Kaylee Cozen closed out the set and completed the reverse sweep for ONU.
Nicholas led ONU with 18 kills while also adding nine digs. Kolb finished with eight kills and Sanif had six. Edmonds and Cozen were credited with three kills each.
Fredin, the reigning CCAC Setter of the Week, had a team-high 32 assists. Lamie (18), Money-Horrey (13), and Sara Serafimova (13) all reached double figures for digs.
The win improves the Tigers to 2-0 in league play and 6-10 on the campaign. They will play in McHie Arena for the first time this season when they host Saint Xavier Tuesday.
