TIGERS UNSTOPPABLE IN 11-0 SHUTOUT AGAINST CALUMET

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) men's soccer team kicked off their conference campaign in dominant fashion on Saturday, defeating the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph 11-0 at home. The Tigers set the tone early, displaying a well-rounded attack and suffocating defense that left their opponents without a response.

ONU struck early in the 3rd minute with Nathan Schmidli scoring the first goal, assisted by Kurodo Ihara. Just two minutes later, Noa Norton doubled the lead with a strike assisted by Gijs Van Den Berg. The Tigers continued to apply pressure, as Philip Joergensen netted back-to-back goals in the 9th and 10th minutes, both assisted by Norton. Schmidli picked up his second goal in the 17th minute, with Norton adding another assist to his name, bringing the score to 5-0. Ihara joined the scoresheet in the 31st minute, and Josh Dennis capped off the first-half scoring with a goal in the 35th minute, assisted by Adrian Kang Hagman, putting the Tigers up 7-0 at halftime.

The second half saw no slowdown in ONU's attack. Adrian Kang Hagman scored just moments after the restart in the 46th minute. Five minutes later, David Garcia tallied a goal in the 51st minute. The Tigers then saw some family history made in the 81st minute when Caleb Mariotti scored before his brother, Josh Mariotti, added a final goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by Dennis, securing the 11-0 victory. The Tigers' win was a complete team effort, with six different players finding the back of the net, and both the offense and defense firing on all cylinders.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will aim to build on their momentum as they hit the road to face the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University on Tuesday, September 24th at 6 p.m. CST. With their confidence high after a dominant conference opener, ONU will look to maintain their strong form against a tough opponent and continue their push for success in conference play.
