ONU ELIMINATED BY CUMBERLANDS IN NAIA SECOND ROUND
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) women's soccer team saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday, falling 6-1 to the reigning national champions, the University of the Cumberlands, in the second round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament. Despite a challenging matchup, the Tigers fought hard against one of the nation's most dominant teams.
The Patriots wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring just over a minute into the match to seize an early advantage. They continued to press, adding goals in the 4th, 17th, and 35th minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime. Faced with a relentless attack, the Tigers worked to regroup during the break, determined to leave everything on the field in the second half.
Cumberlands extended their lead in the 51st minute, but ONU kept pushing forward, earning a late moment of pride in the 81st minute when Melea Miller buried a goal to get the Tigers on the board. The Patriots responded minutes later with their sixth and final goal, bringing the game to a close and advancing to the next round.
Looking Ahead
This loss marks the end of the season for ONU. The Tigers will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2025 season, building on the experience gained from competition this season.
