ONU HOLDS OFF MARIAN IN 6-4 ROAD WIN

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) men's soccer team came out on top in a high-scoring affair, defeating Marian University 6-4 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Tigers struck early and often in the first half and held off a second-half push from the Knights to secure the road win.

ONU took control early, with Philip Joergensen opening the scoring in the 9th minute. Marian responded quickly, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 16th minute. Joergensen was not done yet, netting his second goal of the match in the 23rd minute off an assist from Kurodo Ihara to regain the lead for the Tigers. ONU built momentum as Jordan Nobe added another goal in the 28th minute, followed by Noa Norton in the 34th minute to give the Tigers a commanding 4-1 advantage at the half.

Marian came out firing in the second half, scoring just after the break in the 47th minute, cutting the lead to 4-2. The Knights continued to press, making it a one-goal game with another strike in the 64th minute. However, ONU responded in the 72nd minute when Wilhelm Frisell scored off an assist from Mounir Azzam to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead. Marian continued to fight back, pulling within one goal again in the 81st minute, but Ihara quickly sealed the game just 13 seconds later, scoring in the 81st minute to make it 6-4.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will continue their road stretch on September 14th, as they face Indiana Wesleyan University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CST. ONU will aim to carry their offensive momentum from Saturday's win into the matchup as they look to extend their success away from home.
