
FRESHMEN NEWCOMERS LEAD No. 18 TIGERS AT LEWIS EARLY BIRD
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Freshmen newcomers Aleigha Garrison and Claire Carter led the No. 18 Olivet Nazarene University women's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the season-opening Lewis Early Bird Friday evening.
Garrison, a freshman from Savoy, Ill., paced the team with a fourth-place finish with a time of 14:57.00 in the 4-km race. Mokena, Ill., native Carter was just a few steps behind her teammate, crossing the finish line at 15:00.44 to finish in sixth place.
The three other ONU scorers all finished under the 16-minute threshold. Heidi Holdt notched a 15-place finish with a time of 15:37.28, Lauren Smith crossed the finish line in 15:46.52 to place 17th, and Amelia Murray placed 20th at 15:57.28.
The Tigers finished the day with a team score of 56, good for second place in the five-team meet. Host school Lewis took the team crown with a near-perfect score of 18.
The Tigers will take a week off before hosting the Midwest Classic Sept. 20 at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.
