TIGERS EARNED WIN NUMBER 30 IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OVER LINCOLN

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team earned their 30th win of the season as they swept the Saturday afternoon doubleheader against the Lincoln College Lynx.  The Tigers earned the 11-7, win game one and defeated the Lynx in game two, 15-5 in eight innings. 

 

Game One: ONU 11, LC 7

The Tigers sent out Nolan Belschner to start game one.  The Tiger right-hander worked five innings and surrendered four runs on eight hits and struck out nine batters.  Peyton Bovie and Ryan Jemar both worked an inning and combined for three strikeouts and a hit. 

 

The Tigers cracked the scoring column in the first inning as Robert Jackman scored on an error.  After the Lynx evened the score at the top of the second, Donovan Yelle dropped in an RBI single, to, centerfield, in the bottom of the inning.  The Tigers led, 2-1.  ONU extended their lead in the third inning after Gunnar Pullins platted two on a two-run single, Dylan Miller drove-in Rod Lucas on an RBI single, and Yelle hit a sacrifice fly and scored Pullins.  The Tigers went up 6-1. 

 

The Lynx scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and cut the Tiger lead in half at 6-3.  The Tigers picked up four more runs in the fourth and made the score 10-3.  Lincoln closed in on the Tigers after they marked a run in the fifth and three in the sixth making the score, 10-7.  In the bottom of the sixth, Miller drove in Jacob Burt with an RBI single making the score, 11-7. 

 

The Tigers lashed out 11 runs on 10 hits and forced three Lynx errors as they defeated Lincoln, 11-7. 

 

Game Two: ONU 15, LC 5 F/8

Head Coach Jeff Mullikin sent out Thomas Burns to start game two for the Tigers.  Burns worked three innings and struck out four.  Noah Bradshaw, Jonathan Simpson, Noah Harder, Sean Micetich, Samson Barboza, and Michael Freitas combined to pitch the final five innings.  Freitas came into the game in the eighth and struck out the side. 

 

The Lynx opened up a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the first inning.  The Tigers came right back and scored four in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Pullins, an a run-scoring wild pitch, and on a two-run single by catcher Jordan Almodovar.  ONU grew its lead in the second on a two-run single by Kai Hudson and later stole home to make the score, 7-1. The Tigers marked single runs in the third and fourth to make the score, 9-1. 

 

Run-scoring singles by Hudson and Miller as well as a run-scoring double by Lucas highlighted the scoring for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth as they took a 11-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth, the KC Isenberg stroked a double into centerfield and drove in Michael Cipoletti to make the score, 12-1. 

 

After the Lynx extended the game in the seventh inning with a four-spot, The Tigers won the game after Yelle drove home Lucas with a single in the seventh and Hudson platted Cipoletti with a single in the eighth as they defeated the Lynx, 15-5.

The Tigers welcome the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University for a single-nine inning game on Wednesday, April 27th at 3 p.m.
