ONU REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH SCORELESS DRAW AGAINST ST. FRANCIS
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after playing to a scoreless draw against St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday evening at the Bahr Soccer Facility.
ONU dominated the attacking play with 24 shots, including 15 on target, but could not find the back of the net against the Fighting Saints, whose goalkeeper recorded 15 saves to preserve the shutout.
The first half began with Olivet applying consistent offensive pressure, highlighted by three early shots from Melea Miller, all saved by the St. Francis goalkeeper, Giselle Mata. The Tigers continued to create opportunities, with Sofia Diaz delivering several corner kicks and Miller hitting the crossbar with a header.
Despite the offensive push, Olivet was unable to convert, while their defense stifled St. Francis, allowing no goals. The half concluded with the score tied at 0-0, as both teams headed into the break looking to capitalize on missed opportunities in the second half.
The second half commenced with Olivet aiming to capitalize on their attacking opportunities. Aaliyah Racadio-Kaho nearly broke the deadlock with a shot that hit the crossbar in the 55th minute. Despite consistent offensive pressure from the Tigers, including multiple attempts by Miller, the St. Francis goalkeeper, Mata, managed to keep the net secure with several crucial saves.
As the half advanced, Olivet continued to test the St. Francis defense, with shots from Cassidy Garberding and Arabelle Laurent narrowly missing the target. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Meegan Randall made key saves to deny St. Francis any scoring opportunities. The half concluded with both teams unable to find the back of the net, resulting in a 0-0 draw at the end of the second half./
Miller led the offensive efforts for the Tigers with 11 shots, nine of which were on goal. Mia Linares contributed with four shots, one of which was on target. Racadio-Kaho added pressure with three shots, two landing on goal. In goal, Randall recorded two saves and earned a shutout over 90 minutes of play.
Olivet holds a record of 2-0-3 overall, with two draws in conference play.
