BIG NUMBERS EARN SCHMIDT CCAC, NAIA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

CHICAGO, Ill. –  Tyler Schmidt put up big numbers, including a career-best 40 points in one game, during the seven-day period ending Feb. 18 to claim his third Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week and first NAIA National Player of the Week awards this season, the league offices announced on Tuesday morning.

Schmidt's 40-point performance came on Saturday when he hit 15 of his 20 shots from the field and 8-of-10 free throws to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in an 86-73 victory over Trinity Christian College.  The double-double was his fourth of the year and eighth in his career.

Three days earlier, the senior guard also shot 75 percent from the field (9-of-12) and converted 7-of-11 free throws in netting 26 points in an 87-73 road win over Holy Cross College.  In that game, Schmidt also recorded six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block.

For the two games combined, Schmidt averaged 33.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per outing.  The 66 total points scored last week on 75 percent shooting from the field moved him into the No. 4 spot on ONU's all-time scoring list with 2,151 points.

Schmidt did nothing to hurt his league-leading scoring number which now sits at 24.0 points per game.  He is also first in total assists with 140, fourth in free-throw shooting percentage (.850) and sixth in field goal percentage (.538).

The two wins helped keep the Tigers in a tie for third place in the league standings at 13-5.  Overall, they are 19-7.
