COTA SHINES AS TIGERS FALL TO MISSOURI BAPTIST AND MIDLAND
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A big day from Carlo Cota Vargas wasn't enough as the Olivet Nazarene University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches Friday, falling 6-1 to Missouri Baptist and 4-2 to Midland.
Missouri Baptist 6, Olivet Nazarene 1
Carlo Cota Vargas kicked off the day with a dominant win over MBU's Dragan Omcikus in the top singles match. Cota took the opening set 6-1 before taking the second set 7-5 for the straight-set win.
Missouri Baptist would go on to take the rest of the singles matches and doubles point to cruise to victory. Shaun Chobey and Brian Victoria Ayala forced a tiebreaker in the fifth and sixth singles matches, respectively, but couldn't tack down the wins in either match.

2 - Tokmakov/Kzam (MBU) def. Cota/Banuls, 6-3
3 - Choubey/Saleh (ONU) def. Kinney/Sanchez, 6-4
Midland 4, Olivet Nazarene 2
Toledo and Romero teamed up to win the top doubles match 6-4, while Cota and Gomez cruised to a 6-4 win in the second doubles match to collect the doubles point.
Cota continued his strong day with another win in the top singles match, downing Midland's Ben Starman 7-6, 7-5 to give continue ONU's strong start to the match.
However, his would be the only singles match the Tigers would be able to pick up as Midland swept the remainder of singles to clinch the match at 4-2.
