MEN WIN, WOMEN FALL IN CCAC OPENERS AGAINST ST. FRANCIS

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's and women's tennis teams opened up their conference schedules this weekend against St. Francis (Ill.). The Tiger men picked up the win 4-0 while the women fell 4-0.

Men: Olivet Nazarene 4, St. Francis (Ill.) 0

The Tigers took care of business Saturday, winning every singles match and claiming the doubles point to clinch the match in four.

After ONU dropped the No. 1 doubles match, Carlo Cota Vargas and Carlos Gomez teamed up for a 6-1 win in the No. 2 match. ONU then claimed the doubles point by default in the third match.

Vargas picked up the 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles match, while Juan Diaz Banuls took the 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 3. A default in the No. 6 singles match clinched the win for ONU.

The Tigers were unable to pick up any wins on the day, with St. Francis (Ill.) clinching the match in four points.

Nirva Patel and Natasha Nieto were tied at 3-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, but the match was cut short due to St. Francis clinching the win. The same happened for Nieto in the No. 2 singles match, where she was leading 6-5 before the match was called off.

The Fighting Saints claimed the doubles point and won the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 matches to take the conference-opener win.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers will continue conference play with men's and women's matches against St. Ambrose on Tuesday, April 4 at Snowbarger Athletic Complex in Bourbonnais, Ill. The matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. CST.
