TIGERS SAW MULTIPLE ALL-AMERCIAN PERFORMANCES IN T-11TH-PLACE FINISH AT THE 2022 NAIA OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

GULF SHORES, Ala.  – The Olivet Nazarene University women's outdoor track and field team competed in the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium on Wednesday through Friday. 

 

Wednesday started out in the field as Courtney Hall took 10th place in the hammer throw with a final mark of 50.20 and Olivia Earl finished in tied for 13th in the pole vault with a final mark of 3.45m.  On the track, the team of Tera Miller, Kimberly Brent, Linda Griffith, and Olivia Sturrup finished seventh and, second in their heat, in the 4x100 meter relay prelims and qualified for the finals on Friday with a time of 46.76. Griffith and Hannah Antkoviak then raced in the prelims of 400-meter hurdles.  Both Tiger hurdlers qualified for the finals on Friday as Griffith finished sixth with at time of 1:02.47, while Antkoviak crossed the finish line in eighth with a time of 1:03.16.

 

Thursday's action started on the track as Antkoviak raced in the 100-hurdle prelims and finished in 22nd place overall and placed fifth in her heat with a time of 15.04. In the field, Madeleine Robinson finished in ninth place in the shot put with a final mark of 13.39m.  Continuing in the field events was Avery Spencer, who finished in 22nd in the javelin throw with a final mark of 34.30m.  Back on the track, the team of Miller, Antkoviak, Brent and Griffith raced in the prelims of the 4x400 meter relay and finished as the second fastest of the group and secured a place in the finals on Friday, with a time of 3:44.35.  That time was also good for a new school record in the event.  The Tigers concluded the day in the 10,000-meter run as Sarai Vargas placed ninth with a final time of 37:04.06. 

 

The Tigers concluded the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with a bang as they brought home multiple All-America performances in multiple events.  Lynette Latocha brought home the first All-America honor as she was the runner-up in the high jump after she cleared a final height of 1.70m.  After a seventh-place finish in the prelims, the team of Miller, Brent, Griffith, and Sturrup placed sixth in the finals of the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.90 seconds.  Then the Tigers saw a pair of All-America performances in the 400-hurdles as Antkoviak placed sixth with a time of 1:02.00 while Griffith finished eighth with a time of 1:03.38.  The Tigers then closed with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.  The team of Miller, Antkoviak, Brent, and Griffith finished with a time of 3:47.20. 

 

The Tigers finished the championships in tied for 11th place out of 70 schools with 20 points.
