TIGERS COMPLETE COMEBACK AND TAKE DOWN THE FIGHTING SAINTS IN OVERTIME
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer welcomed the Fighting Saints of University of St. Francis to the Snowbarger Athletic Complex on a rainy Wednesday evening.
The Tigers found themselves down 2-0 early as St. Francis found the back of the net twice in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Tigers then cracked the scoring column, after the Fighting Saints scored their second goal. Off a shot by Abbey Cash, that hit the cross bar, there was a skirmish in front of the Fighting Saint net. The ball was eventually controlled by Emily Greene. Greene then found the back of the net for her first goal of the season making the score, 2-1.
The Tigers had a golden chance to tie the match in the 37th minute as Camille Cote kicked the ball just slightly over the cross bar. ONU also had a very good opportunity, a couple of minutes later. Abbey Cash took a free kick that ricocheted off of the woodwork. The Tigers still trailed, 2-1, going into the half. Cash led the Tigers with three shots and Greene followed with a pair of shots.
Halftime: St. Francis 2, Olivet Nazarene 1
The Tigers controlled the possession early on in the second half. ONU also had a pair of golden opportunities when Kaylee Evers sailed the ball just over the net, on a one-on-one situation and Teagon Albert hit the cross bar. ONU continued to pressure St. Francis and sent in a flurry of shots. The Tigers eventually got to the Fighting Saints netminder in the final minute of the match. With 45 seconds left, Albert hooked up with Katie Knutte inside the box for the match-tying goal. Knutte notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The two teams found themselves in overtime.
End of Regulation: Olivet Nazarene 2, St. Francis 2
In the first overtime, took advantage of a yellow card from St. Francis. In the 94th minute, Albert connected on a free kick, who fed the ball to Marissa Anderson, who sent a one-touch pass to Annabel Murley for the match-winning goal.
The Tigers came back from two goals down to defeat St. Francis, 3-2.
