ONU BASEBALL LANDS FOUR ON CCAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONOR ROLL
CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team had four players earn all-conference recognition as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) announced its postseason baseball awards Thursday afternoon.
Kai Hudson three-peated as the conference's first-team shortstop and named the Gold Glove winner for the shortstop position while Jack Dupuis and Jordan Rhoden both earned second team all-CCAC honors. Joeseph Jimenez was recognized for his defense in the outfield, earning the Gold Glove award for the left field position from the CCAC.
Hudson earned his third consecutive all-CCAC first team selection after hitting a robust .386 batting average, .478 on-base percentage, and .522 slugging percentage. The senior shortstop from Orlando, Fla. ranked fifth in the conference in RBIs with 48 and led the Tigers in doubles and triples with 17 and four, respectively. He also reached double-digit steals for the third straight season with 10 on the year.
Hudson was also recognized for his play in the field, earning the coveted Gold Glove award for the pivotal shortstop position. He recorded 83 putouts against seven errors for a .965 fielding percentage. Hudson also earned credit for 111 assists and turned 14 double plays on the season.
Dupuis set the table for the team at the top of the order. The junior third baseman from Wheaton, Ill., earned his second consecutive second team all-CCAC selection after leading the conference in three separate offensive categories with his 85 hits, .445 batting average, and .539 on-base percentage this season. Dupuis also ranked third in the league in stolen bases and was 10th in slugging percentage at .576.
Dupuis wrapped out 16 extra base hits on the year, including 11 doubles and four home runs. Dupuis etched his name into the ONU single-season record books with top-five marks in batting average, runs scored (67), and hits.
Rhoden earned his first all-conference nod as ONU's top pitcher, compiling a 6-2 record on the season with a team-leading 4.13 earned run average. The sophomore right-hander from Glenn Saint Mary, Fla., started nine games this season and completed two of them, including a three-hit, nine-inning complete game win over the regular-season champion St. Francis (Ill.) where he took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning. Rhoden could have also earned all-conference recognition with his bat, racking up an impressive .325/.383/.470 slash line at the plate with 29 RBIs, six doubles, and three home runs.
Jimenez was named the conference's best defending left fielder, earning the Gold Glove for the position from the CCAC. The junior outfielder from Palm Desert, Calif., hit the century mark with 100 putouts on the year next to just two errors for a sparkling .981 fielding percentage this season.
