HOWARD NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR; JOINS JONES ON FIRST TEAM ALL-CCAC
CHICAGO, Ill. – Lizzie Howard was named the Freshman of the Year by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) as the league office announced its postseason awards Thursday. She joined Alexandria Jones on the all-CCAC first team, marking the second-straight year where ONU had two first team all-conference selections.
Howard, the only rookie to make the all-league first team, averaged an 84.64 during the regular season and recorded the lowest score among all first-year players at the CCAC Tournament.
The Dunlap, Ill., native's top two performances this season came in the fall when she placed second at both ONU's own Bill Johnson Invite and CCAC Fall Cup Preview. The latter event is where she also recorded lowest score of the season, finishing runner-up with a 79 to help the Tigers win the tournament.
Jones played her best golf down the stretch this spring. The junior from Bloomington, Ill., led the Tigers in all four of their spring tournaments, highlighted by a medal finish at the CCAC Championships at TPC Deere Run where she fired a 174 (99-77) to place fifth. She then carded back-to-back 81s to close out the season with a 10th-place finish at the Take Back the Night Challenge.
Those were two of six top-10 efforts for Jones. She was also named the CCAC Women's Golfer of the Week on April 5 for her performance at the Purgatory Intercollegiate, where she recorded a round of 83 to tie for 12th place out of 47 golfers.
