Tigers Advance to CCAC Semifinals with Career Performances from Smith and Pflederer

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.— The RV Olivet Nazarene University advanced to its second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) semifinal game defeating the Trojans of Trinity International University, 101-74, inside McHie Arena, on Thursday night.

The Tigers got off to a fast start at the beginning of the first half marking 14 of the first 16 points highlighted by 6 points by Alex Gross (JR/Hope, Ind.) and CJ Smith (SR/Cumming, Ga.). John Contant (SR/Hickory Hills, Ill.) joined the action for the Tigers as the Tigers took a 16-5 lead. At 22-8, the Trojans try to inch closer to the Tigers, notching five straight points, until Contant knocked down a three making the score 25-13. At 31-17, The Tigers saw Contant and Barik Olden (SO/Groveland, Ill.) knock down threes as ONU led 36-17.

The Tigers continued to control the tempo of the game as they made seven threes and had two players in double-figures and took a 52-37 lead going into the half. Contant and Smith combined to go 5-of-7 from behind the arc.

Landon Plfederer and Gross started the scoring in the second half for the Tigers as they took a 57-42 lead. Plfederer and Smith then made back-to-back three-pointers and grew the Tiger lead to 63-42. At 67-46, Cade Chitty (JR/White Heath, Ill.), Gross, Smith, and Contant led an 8-0 run making the score 75-46. The Tigers continued to control the game as they never let the Trojans get into the game. The Tigers allowed short runs for the Trojans but ONU never let up as they saw key points from numerous contributors down the stretch.

The Tigers hit 13 threes and shot an impressive 63.1 percent from the field as they defeated the Trinity International Trojans, 101-74, to advance to their second straight CCAC semifinal.
