SCHMIDT EARNS OPENING CCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

CHICAGO, Ill. --- A pair of 20-plus point performances that led to a weekend tournament sweep has earned Olivet Nazarene University's Tyler Schmidt (Valparaiso, Ind.) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Schmidt shot 55.6 percent from the field (20-of-36) en route to his 23.5 scoring average over two games last week.  He also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per contest in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) Homecoming Classic.

Schmidt opened the weekend with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 68-67 victory over the tournament host on Friday.  The junior guard followed that effort with a game-high 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field in a 74-64 win opposite University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Saturday.  In the latter affair, he also registered seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Olivet Nazarene's 2-0 week put the Tigers at 3-1 on the season. They will return to the court tonight to open CCAC play against the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. CST.
