SCHMIDT GAINS CCAC MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONOR FOR FIFTH TIME

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Shooting nearly 70 percent from the field and scoring at better than a 24 points-per-game clip during the seven-day period ending Jan. 29, Olivet Nazarene University's Tyler Schmidt (Valparaiso, Ind.) has earned his fifth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Schmidt hit for 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field in an 83-57 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Wednesday.  That was followed by a 27-point afternoon on 10-of-14 accuracy in an 89-64 win opposite Cardinal Stritch University on Saturday.

The junior guard also delivered three assists against Calumet St. Joseph and seven dishoffs versus Cardinal Stritch.

For the two games combined, Schmidt averaged 24.5 points and 5.0 assists per contest, while shooting 69 percent from the field (20-of-29) and 7-of-8 at the foul line (87.5 pct.).

Those numbers helped Schmidt keep his lock on the top scoring spot in the league at 22.9 points per game, while ranking seventh nationally.

With the two victories, Olivet Nazarene stayed in the hunt for the conference regular-season crown.  The Tigers are 17-6 overall and 12-3 in league play, one game in back of first-place Roosevelt University.
