SCHMIDT COLLECTS CONFERENCE, NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCORD

CHICAGO, Ill. - Another outstanding seven-day stretch has warranted Olivet Nazarene University's Tyler Schmidt his seventh Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

The NAIA also announced Schmidt as its national player of the week on Tuesday.

Schmidt fueled Olivet Nazarene's fifth consecutive CCAC regular-season title by averaging 25.0 points, 6.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds in two victories the Tigers needed to clinch the crown this past week.  The junior guard also shot 68.8 percent from the field in each of the two contests, a 111-67 victory over Governors State University on Wednesday and an 85-79 win against Saint Xavier on Saturday to decide the league title.

Schmidt totaled 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the Governors State win.  He then delivered 28 points, six rebounds and five assists in the victory against Saint Xavier.  In both games, he went 11-for-16 from the field.

Schmidt is the top scorer in the league and ranks sixth in the nation with his 23.3 average.

Olivet Nazarene takes its 22-6 overall record into this week's conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.  The Tigers went 17-3 in league play.
