SCHMIDT NAMED NAIA SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A two-time first team all-conference selection. A 2023 conference player of the year award recipient. Sixth in career blocks and 16th in career scoring in program history.

And now an All-American.

Tyler Schmidt added to his already-impressive resume when he was named to the All-America second team by the NAIA today.

The 6-4 junior guard made the leap to the NAIA's second team after earning an all-America honorable mention a season ago. He becomes the third Tiger to be named to a men's basketball all-America team within the last five seasons, with Alex Gross placed on the second team in 2021 and the first team in 2022 and Nic Reed landing on the first team in both 2018 and 2019.

Schmidt averaged 23.5 points per game this season, which led the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and was the sixth-best mark in the nation. He shot 55.4 percent from the field, 48.5 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. Schmidt scored 20-plus points in 19 games and eclipsed 30 points in three contests.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native helped ONU finish 23-8 overall and 17-3 in the CCAC, winning the team's fifth-consecutive regular-season title. The Tigers' season ended in the NAIA Tournament.

Schmidt finished the season with 1,526 career points.
