TIGERS BATTLE THE ELEMENTS AT TPC DEERE RUN, TAKE 11TH AT NAIA MIDWEST INVITATIONAL

Results

SILVIS, Ill. – Playing on a rain-soaked PGA Tour course in TPC Deere Run, the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf team put forth a solid effort in the NAIA Midwest Invitational, hosted by St. Ambrose University.

Jordan Evans was ONU's leading scorer, opening with an 82 before finishing with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday to earn a tie for 35th place. Evans was one of four Tigers to improve his score Tuesday. Jack Rimington fired a second-round 78 to climb inside the top 45. He finished with a 163 (85-78) along with Kyle Spence, who also shot a 163 (78-85) to tie for 44th place. Jack Busch and Caleb Stinespring turned in identical cards to tie for 64th, with both Tigers firing an 86 on Monday and an 84 on Tuesday to card 170.

The second-day improvement wasn't enough to move ONU up in the final standings, with the Tigers taking 11th place overall in the 18-team tournament.

Mount Mercy's Johan Wigertz claimed individual medalist honors by eight shots. He fired a 5-under 66 Monday before closing the tournament with a 1-over 72 for a 4-under 138. Wigertz also led Mount Mercy (300-293=593) to the team title.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The ONU Tigers will continue their fall campaign in the Saints Classic at Notre Dame, held at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. The two-day tournament will begin Monday, Oct. 3.
