BOURBONNAIS,Ill. --Head Coach Kenny Huber and the Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team is pleased to announce the addition of goalkeeper Leonard Bewig to the team starting in the Fall of 2021.

ATHLETIC INFO

  • Leo Bewig started playing soccer at the age of 5 at his local club SSV Heilsberg.
  • In 2012 he was drafted by FG Seckbach where he played in the highest possible Championship for his youth with teams like Eintracht Frankfurt and FSV Frankfurt. Not achieving much in the championship this year, Bewig was still nominated for the DFB development squad.
  • Moving on with some of his teammates to SG Rosenhöhe Offenbach in 2013, he played the championship again, securing the second place behind FSV Frankfurt this time.
    • Also, he gained the 5th place with his team in the state finals tournament for this season. After that his team was able to qualify itself for the International Santander Cup with European top clubs such as FC Barcelona, FC Valencia, Besiktas Istanbul PSV Eindhoven and others.
    • During his last season for SG Rosenhöhe in 2016, he played in the state division championship (second highest league of his age class).
  • In summer 2016 Leo Bewig swapped to KSV Klein-Karben.
    • Winning the 6th division championship of the season 2016/2017, he was able to play his U17 year in the 4th Division of his age class, finishing the season in the upper half of the league behind youth academy teams like SV Darmstadt 98 and SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
  • The same season he won the futsal state championship 2018 and gained the 3rd place in the divisional futsal championships of Southern Germany 2018 by scoring a penalty by himself and saving the final shot of the opponent team.
  • During his last junior years (U18 & U19) he played in the 4th Division of his age class again, managing to win the championship and advancing to the 3rd division at the end of the second season.
    • While still playing in the U19 he was also promoted to the senior team FC Karben in the 4th amateur league, achieving a starting position by mid-season.

PERSONAL & ACADEMIC INFO

  • Friends, family and coaches describe Bewig as a very ambitious, focused and open-minded person.
  • He is very determined, motivated, polite and a team player.
  • He is a confident goalkeeper whose strengths are in one-on-one situations.
  • He is also doing a great job as a goalie defending shots from outside the box.
  • Being the first to open up the game, Bewig also offers himself as an open man using both of his feet to pass on the ball to his teammates.
  • Besides this, he is very communicative, always trying to coordinate his team from the back and motivates them in every situation. For him the team always comes first.
  • On the field, he is a worker who wants to win every challenge and to beat his opponent.
  • He has worked one year for a soccer club as a co-coach in two junior teams and is still working as a goalie coach in youth soccer.
  • With his positive charisma and attitude Bewig has been an important player for his teams in Germany.
