ONU Men's Soccer to Host 2021 Labor Day Tournament

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene men's soccer program is set to host two other programs for the ONU Labor Day Classic set for Saturday Sep. 4 and Monday Sep. 6. Along with the Tigers, the University of Jamestown (N.D.) and Roosevelt University will play over the course of the extended weekend on the Snowbarger pitch.

 

Olivet comes into the weekend with a 2-1 overall record and a perfect 2-0 record last week. In their most recent game, the Tigers scored twice from set-piece plays and once on a breakaway, while freshman Leonard Bewig kept a clean sheet in his first career start to defeat No. 19 Spring Arbor Cougars, 3-0. Nick Kilian was awarded Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference (CCAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after amassing a goal and two assists the week before. Alexis Mancera was recognized as an Offensive Player of the Week Nominee after his two-goal performance against the Cougars.

 

The Tigers' will play one match in the tournament, which will be against the University of Jamestown on Saturday at 7 p.m. This will be the Jimmies' first match of the season after their planned home opener with Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) was postponed. They are traveling in from Jamestown, N.D. with first year head coach, Connor Campbell. Jamestown is coming off a 2020 season where they finished with an 8-10 overall record, 5-6 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Their second leading scorer from a season ago, Diego Valle, returns for his senior season. Valle scored 11 goals in 15 games played his junior year.
