ONU MEN’S SWIM & DIVE TEAM COLLECT PAIR OF WINS AT BETHEL QUAD TO START SEASON

ELKHART, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's swimming & diving team took two wins to open up their 2022-23 season at the Bethel Quad Invite Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers competed against Davenport (Mich.), Bethel (Ind.), and Aquinas. The scores for the contest were as follows:

Olivet Nazarene: 189 – Aquinas: 62
Olivet Nazarene: 161 – Bethel (Ind.): 120
Davenport (Mich.): 196.5 – Olivet Nazarene: 80.5

The Tigers kicked the meet off with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:36.89. Mason Beall added another bronze medal for the Tigers in the meet's longest race, finishing at 10:16.74 to take third in the 1000 freestyle. Beall took one more bronze in the other distance event, placing third in the 500 freestyle (4:54.97).

Jack Fries brought home a pair of individual silver medals from Indiana, going second in the 100 freestyle (48.13) and second again in the 200 freestyle (1:43.66). Timothy Braun finished right behind Fries in the 100 freestyle, taking third with a time of 48.57.

In the 100 backstroke, Nicholas Klenner took the top spot at 51.93 while Liam Kuiper finished third at 54.33. Klenner added another gold medal with a top-performance in the 200 backstroke (1:54.68), winning by over six seconds, while Kuper finished second in the 200 IM relay (2:00.90). Chase Aruskevicius took third in the 200 backstroke at 2:01.24.

Connor Harrison then took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.24 and Braun took third in the meet's quickest event, the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 22.02.

The Tigers finished their day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, with the quartet of Braun, Beall, Michael Quintana, and Fries touching the wall at 1:27.42.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers will host the ONU Tri Invitational at the Perry Center in Bourbonnais, Ill. next Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m. CST.
