ONU MEN PICK UP TWO MORE WINS IN DOMINANT FASHION AT HOME MEET

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University picked up two more wins as they hosted a tri-meet against Aquinas and Bethel (Tenn.) Saturday morning.

The scores for the tri-meet were as follows:

Olivet Nazarene: 193 – Bethel (Tenn.): 40
Olivet Nazarene: 202 – Aquinas: 59

The Tigers started the meet hot with a 1-2 finish in the 400-medley relay. ONU won the other relay, as well, taking the top spot in the 400-freestyle relay.

Mason Beall swept the distance events, going first in the 1650 freestyle (17:14.48) and first in the 500 freestyle (4:54.45). Jack Fries and Chase Aruskevicius joined Beall on the podium in the 500 free, finishing second (4:58.95) and third (5:09.01), respectively. David Gann took home a silver medal in the 1650 free with a time of 18:10.68.

Fries (54.54) and Aruskevicius (55.57) continued their great meet with a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke, and were joined on the podium by Demarcus Washington who finished third (56.66). The Tigers took the top-three spots in the 200 freestyle; Nicholas Klenner in first (1:47.02), Timothy Braun right behind in second (1:47.71), and Gabe Karel in third (1:54.50).

Peter Adams (1:00.75) and Liam Kuiper (1:00.98) took second and third, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke in a photo-finish. Only 0.65 seconds separated first place and third place. Adams added another silver medal on the day with a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke.

The Tigers crushed the shortest race of the meet, with Braun taking first (22.12), Porter Hoffman finishing second (22.26), and Washington placing third in the 50-freestyle sprint. ONU continued their dominance in the sprint events with a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 freestyle: Hoffman first (48.96), Washington second (49.99), and Michael Quintana third (50.37).

The Tigers swept the podium two more times, with Klenner taking first (1:57.96), Kuiper placing second (2:03.46), and Bryce Rodriguez taking third (2:05.68) in the 200 backstroke, and Klenner again going first (54.53), Hoffman taking second (55.06), and Ethan Holwerda placing third (55.61) in the 100 butterfly.

ONU took the top-two spots in the lone diving event, the 1-meter dive, with Caleb Englert taking the gold (178.35 pts) and Joshua Whaley collecting silver (175.90 pts). Kuiper closed out the day with one final gold medal in the 400 individual medley (4:23.31).

The ONU men's swim & dive team will welcome the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose to the Perry Center for a dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 22.
