INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD KICKS OFF SEASON AT GVSU HOLIDAY OPEN
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Tigers traveled up to Michigan for the 2021 Grand Valley State Holiday Open Friday and earned a 10th place finish out of 29 competing teams to open up their indoor track season. ONU faced stiff competition with five Division I schools, 15 Division II schools, six Division III schools, and three NAIA schools in attendance.
Head-lining the meet for women was Lynette Latocha's tied-for-second-place finish in the women's high jump. On her final attempt, she cleared 1.64 meters. Another great showing was from Madeline Manganiello who took fourth in the women's triple jump. Her best distance came in her fifth attempt that was marked at 10.94 meters.
Hannah Antkoviak took part in two separate fifth-place finishes. This included her 59.15 time in the women's 400-meter dash early in the day. She finished off the day in the women's 4x400-meter relay with teammates Terra Miller, Kimberly Brent, and Linda Griffith attributing to a 3:57.15 time.
A big showing from the men's side included a third-place finish from Ivan Williams in the men's long jump. He overcame a foul jump on his first attempt to reach his best-of-the-day 6.75 meters on his fifth trial.
Vincent Giuliano dashed for a fourth-place finish in the men's 200-meter sprint and then ran the second leg of the men's 4x400-meter relay that finished sixth. He clocked in a time of 22.23 time for the 200-meter and his team that included Max Grant, Ethan Piacenti, and Ethan Hodel, timed in at 3:23.65.
ONU's women's track finished the meet with 24.75 points. Madeline Robinson contributed points in the shot put with a sixth-place finish, while Terra Miller and Rachel Shepard contributed a point each with eighth-place finishes in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run respectively.
The men finished the meet with 17.50 points. Noah Sears attributed points with a tied-for-fifth-place result in the men's pole vault. He cleared 4.57 meters on his second attempt at the height to finish the day.
