ONU TEAMS BOTH PLACE 24TH AT NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's and women's cross country teams concluded their seasons with top-25 team finishes at the NAIA National Championships Friday morning. The Tiger men placed 24th out of 34 teams and the women placed 24th out of 36 teams.

Men's meet

The Tigers were led by junior harrier Jordan VanBarriger, who finished in 103rd place with a time of 25:31.5, his fastest mark of the season by over 30 seconds. Following VanBarriger was Taylor Vallangeon, who ran across the finish line in 112th place with a time of 25:35.8.

Flynn Prather eclipsed the 26-minute threshold with a 25:56.5 in 153rd place, while Boston Brooks finished in 188th place at 26:18.1. Peyton Hobson, a 2022 NAIA Scholar-Athlete, rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a 213th-place finish at 26:28.8.

ONU totaled 603 points at the national meet, good for 24th-place overall. Dordt took home the red banner on the men's side with 97 points.

Women's meet

Catherine White, the CCAC Freshman of the Year, led ONU at the national meet with a 44th-place finish at 18:18.4. She was followed by Jacey Schikel, who ran her fastest mark of the season at 18:31.1, the first time she's ran sub-19 this season. She placed 63rd.

Lauren Smith was the next to cross the finish line at 19:33.7, good for 182nd place. Heidi Heldt and Thaliyah Martinez wrapped the scoring for ONU, with 249thH and 263rd finishes, respectively. Heldt crossed the line at 20:07.3 and Martinez crossed at 20:17.5.

The Tigers tallied 613 points for to placed 24th out of 36 teams. Taylor took the women's red banner with 50 points.
