Ross Leads Tigers Past IU-South Bend in Close Game

South Bend, Ind. – ONU traveled to Indiana University – South Bend to continue Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Saturday. The match-up between the Titans and Tigers was ONU's second conference game this week. The game saw tight action as ONU narrowly defeated IUSB by a score of 95-92.

The Tigers held the scoring advantage in every quarter except the fourth. However, the margin that Olivet won each quarter in the first half was only one point per quarter. In the first half of play the Tigers saw Sammy Stejskal (SR/Arlington Heights, Ill.) build on her 22 point performance from Wednesday night as she scored eight points in the first two periods of play. Maggie Cora (FR/Lizton, Ind.) added 10 points to this total to allow the Tigers to go into half with a 45-43 advantage.

The second half saw Kayla Ross (SR/Elgin, Ill.) come to life in the scoring column as she scored 10 points over the final two quarters. She also added three assists in the second half, giving her nine for the game. Stejskal added 10 points to her final stat line in the second half, giving her 18 for the game. The Tigers finally put a rest to hopes of IUSB making a comeback with a Katie Settingsgaard (SR/Oak Creek, Wis.) block with 10 seconds left to play. Olivia Schmidt (SR/Eldridge, Iowa) got the rebound and was fouled. She sealed the Tiger's victory when she sank the second of her two-free throws to put the Tigers up by five. IUSB would score one final lay-up, but ran out of time to further attempt a comeback.
