TIGERS FALL TO CONFERENCE OPPONENT SOUTH BEND

Bourbonnais, Ill. – Offensive struggles and a short bench made for a tough game against conference opponent, Indiana-South Bend. In regards to IU-South Bend, Forward Caroline Boehne (SO/Hoffman, Ill.) said, "They're going to come after us since we were their one loss, and especially on our home court they are going to want to win." Both teams knew they were in for a fight coming into this game. The Tigers were missing some key contributors, causing them to get away from their usual "platoon subbing" game plan. With this, the Tigers only managed to score 11 points in the first quarter.

Despite the offensive struggles, the Tigers were able to take control at the end of the second quarter. A nine-zero run was orchestrated by Kayla Ross (SR/Elgin, Ill.), who assisted on crucial three-pointers by Karina Smits (SO/Pewaukee, Wis.), Zanna Myers (SO/Monticello, Ill.), and Sammy Stejskal (SR/Arlington Heights, Ill.). Following this, Ross decided to go on a run of her own when she made three consecutive layups to put the Tigers within four points of South Bend. To end the half, the deficit was within five points, giving the Tigers motivation going into the locker room.

Coming out of the half, Caroline Boehne would be the first to score, putting the Tigers within just two points. However, dynamic guard play by South Bend allowed them to extend their lead back to 14 by the end of the quarter. Before the game, Forward, Kaitlyn Clark (SO/Orting, Wash.) said that their press would be a major key in this game, but without a high point total for the Tigers, they were not able to establish their press and create turnovers like usual. To close out the game, Natalie Bardwell (SO/Goodfield, Ill.) and Katie Settingsgaard (SR/Oak Creek, Wis.) would hit shots from beyond the arc to cushion their three-point percentage. However, when the game ended, the Tigers would fall by a score of 80 to 58.
