TIGERS CRUISE TO VICTORY AGAINST GOVERNORS STATE
Bourbonnais, Ill. – In today's CCAC matchup, the 25th ranked Tigers took on Governors State University. Governors State was first on the board with an early layup, but the Tigers struck back and gained a quick five-point lead. With three minutes left in the first quarter Governors State reclaimed the lead and would hold it until the end of the quarter. The Tigers trailed 17-14 at the intermission but would have a stronger second quarter. Natalie Bardwell (SO/Goodfield, Ill.) hit a layup that gave the Tigers their lead back at 18-17. Governors State would take the lead back one last time before Sammy Stejskal (SR/Arlington Heights, Ill.) hit a jumper that gave the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish. Going into halftime, the Tigers had a 33-28 lead.
The Tigers opened the second half on a 17-to-two run lead by Stejskal who had nine points during the run thanks to multiple assists from Kayla Ross (SR/Elgin, Ill.). Freshman Maggie Cora (FR/Lizton, Ind.) finished off the Tigers explosive run with a layup and the Tigers lead stood at 50-30 with time winding down in the third quarter.
Strong defensive performances from Caroline Boehne (SO/Hoffman, Ill.), and Kennedy Johnson (SO/Romulus, Mich.) kept the Jaguars away while Stejskal, Bardwell, and Zanna Myers (SO/Monticello, Ill.) aided the offensive attack in the second half. The Tigers notched their 17th win on the season with a dominant performance over conference foe Governors State. The final score reading 87-44.
